We provide full notes and revision sessions to ensure you have all the information you need. However, in exceptional circumstances, with advance notice, we will be happy to provide a recording – please get in touch to discuss.

Our terms and conditions state cancellations will be refunded at the following rates:

 • Less than 3 weeks before the course: 50% refund;
 • Less than 3 days before the course: no refund available.

If you wish to defer, you must give at least 7 days notice and can defer once free of charge, subsequent deferrals may incur a £50 admin fee. Participant substitutions for courses can be made at any time but the person taking the exam must have completed the whole course.

All exams are conducted online. We follow the Passivhaus Institute strict guidelines, and you will need to comply with the registration, security and IT requirements which need to be completed at least 2 weeks in advance. We’ll provide full support to get you set up and also ask you to attend a short mandatory IT check 2-3 days before your exam date to ensure everything is in place.

Please get in touch with us to discuss this further. The Passivhaus exams are challenging and our course material is designed to cover the range of knowledge you will need to be successful, not just for the exam but also for future work in this sector.

Until 2022, our training programme was part of the AECB Carbonlite programme. We've seen demand for our Passivhaus training grow rapidly over the last few years and have big ambitions to continue our growth and deliver courses at scale, upskilling as many construction professionals as possible. To support this and build a clearer pathway for Passivhaus learning and development we have now relaunched as an independent entity – Coaction Training CIC.

Our tradesperson course is aimed at those working in supervisory position but if you are not sure please do get in touch to discuss, our team will be happy to advise.

You can book the online training sessions as a standalone without the exam if you do not wish to gain the international Certified Passivhaus Tradesperson accreditation. If you wish to take the exam however, you must have attended all the training sessions.

Yes, our main courses, including exams, are online, delivered through live webinars and some self-study. We have worked hard to ensure our online schedule demonstrates the quality and key elements that we pride ourselves on, including peer interaction, in-depth knowledge sharing, and one-to-one support.

The exam is optional and costs £375 + VAT. There are no other additional costs.

You must have your own individual copy of the PHPP software, required to register for the designer exam. PHPP10 software costs from £170 and can be purchased directly from the AECB. Please note there are members and multi-license discounts available.

Our Designer course offers an incredible learning experience, including: live sessions and self-study for all modules; supporting manuals and practice exercises; additional sessions including revision, tutorials, and case studies on inspirational and relevant Passivhaus projects; and full support with the Certified Passivhaus Designer/Consultant examination. Please read below about some of the benefits of the delegate journey on our course:

Before the course starts, we invite you to our Welcome session to introduce you to our trainers and your fellow delegates, explain how the course works in terms of software and the exam and answer any other questions you may have. Next you will complete the key sections of the online Passivhaus Institute Fundamentals course as self-study. Our live ‘Intro to science’ session will explain the basic concepts of power and energy and ensure the group has a basic understanding before the Science module kicks off.

Every live session, you will meet two of our experienced Passivhaus trainers. All our trainers are working currently in the Passivhaus sector, and they enhance our UK-based material with their own experience on tackling real issues Passivhaus projects may encounter. In addition to this, we aim to organise 2 case studies during our course and if you are working on your own project, we invite you to bring it to our crit session for review and discussion.

To check your understanding as we go, there are several homework exercises you will need to complete during the modules. Trainers will respond to your homework and answer your questions via a dedicated MS Teams channel. In addition, there are three tutorials during the course to give you an opportunity to ask questions to our trainers.

We encourage networking with your fellow delegates and provide the platforms to help you achieve it with ease both during and after the course.

Our operations team will be available every working day to support you and guide you on each step of the online exam registration, including testing your IT and the exam software before the final exam.

For those of you who wish to learn even more, we give you access to additional courses like the Passivhaus Trust's Net Zero series and Coaction's Introduction to THERM online course.

Three live sessions of online training, supporting notes supplied as pdf, and an attendance certificate attributable to 9 hours of CPD. If you are also booking the revision and exam, all exam fees are included.

Please visit each organisation's own website to see what benefits membership offers and what is best for your situation.

CIC stands for Community Interest Company and denotes that we are a social enterprise. Any profits we make are reinvested to further support the upskilling of built environment professionals in the UK, through continued improvement of our courses and development of community and support activities.

From the very beginning, WARM have played a key role in supporting the training programme. We are still lucky enough to share offices and resources, meaning that both our teams benefit from up-to-date knowledge and learning, and collectively using our skills to tackle the climate emergency and drive positive change in the UK built environment.

For the main training sessions you will need access to a laptop or PC with working headset and camera. We run our sessions on Zoom – you can find out more about using this link.

You will need to use a safe exam browser; this security software will restrict access to external websites or applications while you are taking the exam. We strongly recommend using a personal PC or laptop, but if you are using a work laptop, you might need to contact your IT support to help you with the installation.

Use our course comparison table on our Courses page to help you work out the right option for you.

Our course is supported by EBS, suppliers of Passivhaus-approved tapes and membranes. They will send a special sample pack to each of our delegates, which forms part of a practical homework exercise and allows you to familiarise yourself with tape qualities.

An independent and not-for-profit company, our collective of trainers are all experienced practitioners and Passivhaus pioneers. More than access to courses, through partnership with other organisations we seek to cultivate a welcoming community of likeminded professionals that supports and nurtures best practice, closing the performance gap between design and construction to ensure buildings are the best they can be.

We care passionately about doing what we can to tackle the climate and societal emergencies facing us, by using our Passivhaus training to empower future designers, contractors, educators and wider stakeholders to drive positive change through the buildings they create.

Any profits we make are reinvested to further support the upskilling of built environment professionals in the UK, through continued improvement of our courses and development of community and support activities.
